Certified
Master Gears
The precision
of our gear grinder and inspection equipment put Nelson Engineering,
Inc. in the unique position to manufacture certified master
gears. Typically customers will come to us knowing what type
of gear they would like to inspect and then leave it to us
to work out the specifications of the master gear. When procuring
a master gear it is important to realize the most important
aspect to master gear production is the ability to inspect
and document all aspects of the gear. With our Brown
& Sharpe PMM an AGMA 15 gear can be fully inspected
and documented. Below is what will ship with your master gears.
- Certificate
of Conformance
- Complete
gear data dimensional report
- Complete
gear blank dimensional report
- Material

Gear
Inspection
Besides
standard gear inspection equipment Nelson Engineering, Inc.
boast a Brown
& Sharpe PMM or Precision Measurement Machine. This
machine is one of the five most accurate coordinate measurement
machines in the Western United States and one of only a handful
in the world. It repeats within .00002" at 3" and
.00016" at 59" and can measure every conceivable
aspect of any type of gear. These machines usually can only
be found in government laboratories and this level of quality
is unheard of in the private sector. Many companies inspect
gears on gear checking machines only. While good machines they have limitations in both
quality and range of inspection options compared with our PMM. Not only can we inspect the gears but we also use the
machine as a fully functional coordinate measurement machine.
This means that keyways, slots, precision holes and more complex
features can all be checked in relationship to the gear. Truly
our Brown & Sharpe PMM sets us apart from all other gear
manufactures.
